Epic Journey: Part 9

Wow! Remember a few posts ago when I was talking about biting off more than I could chew?
NOM NOM NOM NOM NOM NOM I am chewing!! But this burger ain't gettin' any smaller!
I am so busy now it's almost amazing! I have the Zoo 2 days a week, plus school 3 days a week, photoshoots for school and on the side, plus editing time, plus we just signed up for Ninja training 2 days a week, I started a fairly large garden that needs daily attention, in addition to all the regular chores around the house OMG!~! Thankfully it all fits in well with my plan to NOT do a LOT of sittin around this summer. By the end of this quarter at school I will be tan and skinny, and have LOTS of REALLY GREAT images to share! How's THAT for some optimism? ^_^

Here's my fave pic from the garden

The Zoo internship is AWESOME, but also INTENSE! Drenched in sweat before 9am is not how I usually like to start my day, but ya know what? If that'll get me into the enclosure with the Maned Wolf pups, then hand me a towel and call me happy!! I wasn't shooting, just assisting, but TOTALLY not bad for my second day there, right?!? The cheetahs were less than 5 feet from me and all that separated us was a chainlink fence.... I wanted to *squeeeeeeee* so baaaaaad! But, I had to act like I had some sense and not totally freak out at how freakin cute they are and how much I wanna play and snuggle with them.... The animals I DID get shots of aren't fabulous, kinda touristy, but that's ok. Here's a fun one...

Then I got a shot of an awesome Iris! It's hard to take a bad pic of a good subject.

For my Portfolio class a friend and I teamed up and went on a kind of "nature hunt". The Woodlands provided us with some really nice things to shoot as well as a LOT of walking! Exercise is good, or so I hear... :)
Check out a couple things I found

Would you believe that I had to practically lay in a ditch to get the flower shot? Yup... Right next to 3 lanes of speeding traffic. Not the first time - won't be the last. One of those "gotta do whatcha gotta do" kind of things. Like sweatin' at the Zoo... But ya know what? IMA GET THAT SHOT!!!

Epic Journey: Part 8

So, Corporation/ Industrial (corp/indy) Photography seems like it will be a challenge. The first day of class he had us going on a field trip to shoot some interior set-ups at a billiard/bar/entertainment factory. Was not quite on my game that day so we'll see what I come up with!! Gotta be on top of stuff this quarter - NO ROOM FOR SLACKIN! (Remember what failure is? NOT AN OPTION!)
My focus in Portfolio this quarter is going to be on my restorations, commercial arts, and art gallery pieces (fine arts - for serious lack of a seriously better term!) I will also be fleshing out my stock for a portraits page, but that will be a bit later. That means after draining myself at the Zoo on Monday and/or Tuesday I should be sufficiently delirious to screw up my Corp/Indy class on Wednesday, but be wickedly creative for Portfolio on Thursday! It should be fun though, a whole quarter devoted to being creative and having super fun with my pictures! We'll hafta see how ima work in some sleep before my Friday class. I foresee difficult times ahead - oh, the joys of college life!! Really, though, I love it!

I dunno if I love these pics though - As part of my homework in Portfolio I looked up a few tutorials on how to do some creative adjustments that I hadn't done before... One was for introducing more color into your image. Be nice - this was my first attempt following along with the tut. And my pic was DRAMATICALLY different from the one they used o.0

Say Good Morning to Dallas at 34,000ft.

Vibrant

Either way - I guess it's a cool shot. Was my first time being able to get that kind of image. Never was very good at taking pics from planes, though I will stare out the window like a freak for the entire flight!!

This flight just happened to be going the right direction at the right time of day. It was AH-MAY-ZINGGGG!!

Our first day in Corp/Indy was a field trip right?
This is what I came away with.... Well, a couple of them anyway :) for whatever reason he wanted them done in HDR. I don't like HDR, but I DO like getting the grades... At least I can say I tried!

Epic Journey: Part 7

Official Zoo Photographer Internship Update:
Apparently, I rocked it out!!! For the next 11 weeks, that I know of, I will be doing photography work for the Houston Zoo! Everything from website photos, to magazine spreads, to special events, to head shots of staff if necessary. I don't care as long as I get to take pics of stuff at the Zoo <3 How flippin cool is THAT?!? I am sooo doing a happy dance right now! Yay!!
And I gotta give mad props to my girl Ashley - she was the only other person at AiH-N to apply and it was a tough decision I'm sure. Thank you for making it a good fight, mama <3 I'm gonna do my darndest to help you get it next time! This is gonna be a busy busy quarter for me... My classes start on Wednesday and I will be going to the Zoo on Monday's and Tuesday's as well as whatever weekends they think they need me. Earth Day seems to be the big one....

I am SOSOSOSOSSOSOOOOO gonna milk this quarter for all it is worth!

Starting with Corporate/Industrial Photography...
Oil rigs, trains, construction, architecture, warehouses, assembly lines, hardhats, steel toes, clip boards, blue collar, bikini calendars, stale coffee.... Those are the things that come to mind when I think of Corporate/Industrial Photography. That's my first class of this new quarter. I've done some looking around on the interwebbernet and what I've come up with seems to be a little bit of all of the above. This could be interesting.... It could completely suck.... I'm gonna be optimistic and say it won't suck as bad as some of the other classes I've had to take. Who knows? I might actually be good at it!

Optimism, right?

Also this quarter I am taking Web Portfolio Design in which I believe I will be building another website and Portfolio Exploration 2 where I will be building more on my current website and expanding my collection of awesomeness!!
(See? I am soooo rockin this optimism thang!)

So, it's the start of a new quarter...
I guess this is supposed to be the part where I wax a little nostalgia and reflect on lessons learned and all that blah blah blah... Let's see... What did I learn last quarter?
I learned that it's ok to say "no" and mean it...
I learned that being in competition with friends doesn't mean I still don't wanna win... and that's OK!
I learned that I have limits to the amount of nonsense I will put up with before I get REALLY passive aggressive... .0
I learned that dammit - sometimes chocolate really DOES solve problems! :-9~~~

Here's some pics of some chocolate and other yummy confections!
